My career in digital media began after graduating from Clemson University in 1994 with a degree in marketing. Having an interest in desktop publishing, I teamed up with two friends and started a publication called The Gallery Guide: A Guide to Charleston’s Art Community.  With the publication’s success, my colleagues and I became increasingly interested in digital marketing and began developing websites for businesses in a variety of industries. The publication was eventually sold in 2000, and I accepted a position at East West Resorts on Kiawah Island, SC, serving as the Internet Marketing Manager. East-West Resorts was eventually acquired by Wyndham Resorts.

With East-West Resorts, I managed and marketed a large website for resort properties in sixteen states and British Columbia.  My responsibilities included search engine optimization, search engine marketing, conducting e-mail marketing campaigns including content creation, pay–per-click management, and integration of new technology. Managing a large software development team, a web development team, and having budgetary responsibilities for all Internet marketing initiatives were also part of my job with East-West.

In 2005, I accepted a new position as Web Content Manager for Kiawah Partners.  In this role, I managed content for Kiawah Partners’ websites where I managed daily and weekly updates for Kiawah Island Real EstateFresh Fields Village, Kiawah Island Club and Doonbeg Golf Club. I initiated email marketing campaigns and managed search engine optimization and pay-per-click campaigns.

Upon leaving Kiawah, I spent many years working for several best-in-class digital agencies servicing brands like Bridgestone/Firestone, HumanaSpanx, and several other Fortune 1000 brands.

The skills I acquired over the course of 20 years now allow me to help small-to-mid-market size businesses leverage digital media in order to create an effective and profitable Internet marketing strategy.

Philosophy

For lack of a better term, Baffle them with b.s. is a theme I have seen quite a bit over the years.  It is often in the vendors’ best interest to keep the client somewhat in the dark by using highly technical terminology or language that the client may not fully understand. I have been on the receiving end of this and have also fallen prey to it more than once. It’s an illusion of “Hey, these guys really know what they’re talking about!” However, in some cases they may absolutely be competent technical people but unfortunately poor communicators.

It is my mission to act as an objective, outside observer for your organization’s digital marketing strategy. Clients are often amazed at some of the basic elements of search engine optimization and SEM management that regularly get overlooked.
